ECU Renault S2000RPM (RPMT)

Programming the second controller (donor), copying data.Car models:

  • Renault Clio 1.2L, 8V, 2001
  • Renault Espace IV 2.0L ->2003
  • Renault Laguna II 1.6L / 1.8L .2001 – 2004
  • Renault Laguna II 2.0L 2002 – 2008

Common faults with this ECU include:

  • throttle control error, possibly momentary RPM fluctuations between 2000 and 3000 RPM,
  • no response to the accelerator pedal, spontaneously increasing RPM to 2000 – 3000 RPM (especially after the engine has warmed up),
  • rough running caused by an injector control error.

The S2000RPM(T) ECU is essentially unrepairable. Most of the faults listed could only be fixed temporarily. These ECUs would return even during the warranty period, especially after hot summer days. Ultimately, the ECU needs to be replaced and reprogrammed. Programming involves copying the software from one (damaged) ECU to the other, working ECU. After such reprogramming, the second ECU is ready to work in the car.

Does a salvaged ECU (from a dismantled car) have to have the same numbers on its sticker? No, it doesn’t. Furthermore, an S2000RPM ECU from a 2.0 engine (non-turbo) can be replaced with an ECU from a 1.8L engine, a 1.6L engine, or even the rarer 1.4L. And vice versa. This allows data to be read from the damaged ECU and written to the second “donor.” The exception is the ECU from the 2.0 Turbo engine, the S2000RPMT. For this ECU, only the S2000RPMT is valid, and the other numbers can be ignored.

Required information about the type of damage: catalog data from the sticker or what car, year of production, type/capacity/engine power, what gearbox (automatic/manual), what throttle body (metal/plastic).
